Alex J. Rosenberg, Sc.D., AAA / ASA / MRICS
Principal
 
Dr. Alex Rosenberg is a life-certified and accredited Senior Appraiser of Personal Property/Fine Art by the Appraisers Association of America (AAA) and the American Society of Appraisers (ASA), specializing in Impressionist, Modern and Contemporary Art. He is a former president of the AAA, and has been awarded their highest honors for service to the profession throughout his career. With over 40 years experience as an art dealer, appraiser and expert witness, Dr. Rosenberg is recognized as a leader in dealing with problems related to IRS regarding estates and gifts.  A noted expert on Salvador Dalí, he is a founder of the Salvador Dalí Research Center and currently serves as its Chairman Emeritus.

Dr. Rosenberg has recently served as an Expert Witness on numerous high profile court cases, including De Sole v. Knoedler Gallery and The Estate of Robert Rauschenberg. He has written extensively on the subject of appraising, and recently authored the book An Approach to Advanced Problems in Appraising Art with a Special Focus on Cuba, and co-authored the Uniform Standards for Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) for the AAA. For years he was an Adjunct Assistant Professor at New York University.

Marion R. Banks, M.A.

Marion Banks is an Accredited Member of the Appraisers Association of America and is a recognized art and antiques appraiser, specializing in all forms of personal property, antiques, fine art and prints for more than 35 years. She holds a Master of Arts degree from New York University and completed two years of doctoral studies at Columbia University. She lectured extensively on antiques, design and the marketplace and taught photography and antiques at the University of Mississippi in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Leslie Koot, M.A., AAA

Leslie Koot is a Certified Member of the Appraisers Association of America, and holds a Master of Arts in Modern Art History, Connoisseurship, and History of the Art Market from Christie's Education. She specializes in Modern, Contemporary and Emerging Art. She has a special interest in Latin American and Cuban art and recently co-authored an article on valuing Cuban art for Trusts & Estates magazine.

She has collaborated closely with Alex Rosenberg for the past five years on research and market analysis related to major litigation cases. She has performed provenance research for clients wishing to properly identify and document works in their collections.

Gems and Jewelry
 
Rob Aretz has worked full time in the jewelry industry for 42 years and has experience in jewelry manufacturing, retail and wholesale.  He has been an independent appraiser of jewelry for more than 20 years, a graduate gemologist (G.G.) from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), a certified member of the Appraisers Association of America (AAA), a certified member of International Society of Appraisers (ISA-CAPP) and a senior member of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA).

Harmer Johnson, AAA / FRICS
Tribal and Ancient Art

Harmer Johnson has been a respected appraiser for more than 50 years, and is regarded as one of the top specialists in ancient Near Eastern, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, African, Oceanic, Native American, Pre-Columbian, and Olympic Games medallic art. After a career at Sotheby’s London and New York, he began to work independently in 1973. He is a certified member and former President of the Appraisers Association of America (AAA), and a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS). He is an auctioneer, a recognized lecturer in his fields, and has completed appraisals for many of the most important collections and museums both in the US and abroad.

Daile Kaplan, AAA
Photographs and Photobooks
 
Daile Kaplan is a certified appraiser of personal property/fine art, as well as documentary and vernacular photography, 19th- and 20th century photobooks, and 3-dimensional photo objects. She is a Vice President of Swann Auction Galleries and is Director of their Photographs Department. A celebrated speaker about collecting, she is photographs specialist on P.B.S.’s nationally acclaimed TV program, Antiques Roadshow. Ms. Kaplan has appraised important collections and large archives for high-profile museums, private collectors and governmental agencies. She served on the Board of Directors of the Appraisers Association of America for many years.
